Victor Osimeh first appeared on our screen during an under 17 tournament four years ago. He showed all shades of greatness during the tournament as he performed scintillatingly in virtually every match he played. Also in the team is another skilful player currently making rave in Europe, he is no other than Kelechi Nwakali. The left-footed winger was key in the eaglets run to lift the trophy. He contributed but assist and goals to announce himself as one of the prospect to watch for the future. And the young man has since lived up the expectation, producing a series of match-winning performances for his club Villa Real in Spain.
Victor Oshimehin has since moved to Europe in a bid to stake a claim in the footballing world. He played for a Belgian side Sporting Lecheroi in the 2017/2018 season scoring 18 goals in the process, making his a target by top European club, and then came the summer transfer window where a made a move away from his club.
During the last transfer window, his club was looking forward to tying the high scoring midfielder to a long term deal and the attacker too entertained the idea to continue with the Belgian side. But during the course of the transfer window, a sudden twist of event, the attacker emerged as a top target to replace Nickolas Pepe, an Ivorian player plying his trade with Lille of France. In the preceding season, Pepe put in series of the spectacular display making him a top target for Unai Emery’s team, Arsenal FC of England.
The news made the around of how Arsenal should go for Pepe. People thought the Ivorian has proved himself in France and it was about time the young attacker moved to England to prove himself as one of the best in the game.
Arsenal came knocking at Lille with the French outfit finally agreeing on a deal worth £70 million for the attacker. After trading losing their talisman to a top team, Lille began shopping for Pepe’s replacement and Victor Ohimehin emerged a top target.
Lille later closed a deal with the Belgian outfit for a fee far less than what they made from the sale of Pepe and Oshimehin has since proven to be more than an asset to the French club scoring a number of foals since his debut. The prolific striker has is in a hurry to light up the French league and he has broken a number of records after making just 8 appearances.
The young striker is currently a joint top goal scorer at the French league. He marked his debut with a brace and since then he has found the back of the net in 6 out of 8 appearances. Oshimehin has also realized his dream of playing in the champions league. He featured for his team against Chelsea and as usual, the young striker didn’t disappoint.
He net an equalizer against Chelsea when his club was behind in the game and searching for an equalizer. During the game, before half time, the Lille won a corner kick which the Nigerian converted with a delightful header to beat the helpless Spanish goalkeeper.
The goal marked his first champions league goal even though the French outfit later lost the match to Chelsea. But there is a positive feeling about the match for the young Nigerian. Victor Oshimehin cuts a figure of a man in mission. The young striker is on a mission to ensure he is ranked amongst the game’s best poachers to come from Africa.
He once said he would love to be rated with the likes of Rashidi Yekini, Julius Eforsa Aghahowa, Obafemi martins and other Nigerian strikers who the colours of the Super Eagles. Victor is currently on the lead to see his dream come to fruition. The young striker already represented Nigeria in the just concluded African cup of the nation even though his role was limited to a single game cameo.
Oshimehin had his role limited by a veteran Nigerian striker in the person of Odion Ighalo. But the tournament which held in Egypt would serve as a preparation for the Nigerian as he looks set to fill the position of the striking position vacate Ighalo. The man announced his retirement from the Super Eagles after the 2019 AFCON alongside the Super Eagles captain and veteran midfielder, John Obi Mikel.
Oshimehin has since become the point man for the super eagles displacing another Nigerian striker, the lanky attacker Paul Onuachi who was preferred ahead of Oshimehin in the concluded AFCON as the second choice point man.
